    Formação de professoras na Colômbia: dois projetos, duas tendências - 1874 – 1903

    ABSTRACT This article is part of the macro research project called "Women in the construction of the Colombian nation" and refers to the professional preparation of women as teachers for all girls schools at two points in Colombia's history in 1874 and in 1903. For more than fifty years, the education of girls and young girls and the training as teachers for women depended on the demands imposed by the political power within two tendencies that, in principle, were irreconcilable: what was proposed by the radical liberals and, in turn, what was proposed by the conservatives.  Part of this tension was observed in EscuelasNormales (a pedagogical school to learn how to teach) as the institutions organised by each of the two powers for the training of teachers within their respective political ideologies.  The main question for this research study was the understanding of the meaning given to the education of female teachers by each of the highlighted political powers, therefore, which were the fundamental differences between the two educational tendencies, both liberal and conservative, referring to the education of female teachers? To answer this question, the Social History, the Decolonial Feminism and the gender category according to Joan Scott and her historical analysis, were considered as the theoretical background in order to read and evaluate such educational proposals. Taking into account the changes and political determinations in the country since the mid-nineteenth century and the first three decades of the twentieth century, the sources for the study were based primarily on the reading of the regulations regarding women during the period of the Constitutions of 1863 and 1886, the Civil Code of 1887;  the Organic Decree of Public Instruction of 1870 -ODPI-, Decree 4 of 1874, Law 39 of 1903 and Decree of 1904, as well as the description of the most relevant values within the Colombian culture related to female behaviour and the Concordat between León XIII and Rafael Núñez on the role of the Catholic religion in education.RESUMEN: El presente artículo es parte del macro proyecto  de investigación “Las mujeres en la construcción de la nación colombiana” y se refiere a la preparación profesional de maestras para las escuelas de niñasen dos momentosde la historia de Colombia 1874 y 1903. Una época en la cualdurante más de cincuenta años la educaciónfemenina y de las maestrasdependió de  las exigencias  impuestas  por el poder político dentro de dos tendencias  que por principio se dieron como irreconciliables: lo propuesto por los liberales radicales y, a su vez, lo planteado por los conservadores. Parte de esta tensión se materializó en las Escuelas Normales  como las instituciones  organizadas por cada uno de los  dos poderes parala preparación de las maestrasdentro de sus respectivos idearios políticos.  La pregunta central en esta parte de la investigación se centró en comprender el sentido que le dierona la educación de las maestras cada uno de los sectores políticosreferidos, en consecuencia, ¿Cuáles fueron las diferencias fundamentales frente a la educación de las maestras que presentaron las dos políticaseducativas la liberal y la conservadora? Para la lectura y análisis  de las propuestas educativas se recurrió al apoyo teórico de la Historia Social, del Feminismo decolonial y de la categoría género, propia para el análisis  histórico según lo planteado por Joan Scott. Teniendo en cuenta los cambios y las determinaciones políticas en el país desde mediados del siglo XIX y las tres primeras décadas del siglo XX las fuentes para llevar a cabo el estudio se basaron fundamentalmente en la lectura de la normatividad vigente durante el período relacionada con las mujeres plasmada en las Constituciones de 1863 y 1886, Código civil de 1887; el Decreto Orgánico de Instrucción Pública de 1870 –DOIP-, Decreto 4 de 1874, Ley 39 de 1903 y Decreto de 1904, así como la caracterización general de los valorespredominantes en la cultura colombiana  respecto al comportamiento femenino y el Concordato entre León XIII y Rafael Núñez por el papel de la religión católica en la educación.Este artigo é parte do projeto de pesquisa "Mulheres na construção da nação colombiana" e refere-se à preparação profissional de professores para escolas de meninas em dois momentos da história da Colômbia em 1874 e 1903. Um tempo em que por mais de cinquenta anos a formação de professores e mulheres dependia das demandas impostas pelo poder político dentro de duas tendências que, em princípio, eram consideradas inconciliáveis: o que foi proposto pelos liberais radicais e, por sua vez, o que foi proposto pelo conservadores. Parte dessa tensão se materializou nas Escolas Normais como instituições organizadas por cada um dos dois poderes, para a preparação dos(as) professores(as) dentro de suas respectivas idéias políticas.  A questão central nesta parte da pesquisa focou-se em compreender o significado da formação dos professores em cada um dos setores políticos referidos, portanto, quais eram as diferenças fundamentais em relação à formação docente que apresentaram os duas políticas educacionais, liberais e conservadoras? Para a leitura e análise das propostas educacionais, utilizou-se o apoio teórico da História Social, o Feminismo descolonial a partir da categoria de gênero, próprios para a análise histórica proposta por Joan Scott. Levando em consideração as mudanças e determinações políticas no país desde meados do século XIX e as três primeiras décadas do século XX, as fontes para a realização do estudo basearam-se principalmente na leitura dos regulamentos em vigor no período, referente às mulheres incorporadas nas Constituições de 1863 e 1886, Código Civil de 1887; o Decreto Orgânico de Instrução Pública de 1870 -DOIP-, Decreto 4 de 1874, Lei 39 de 1903 e Decreto de 1904, bem como a caracterização geral dos valores predominantes na cultura colombiana em relação ao comportamento feminino e a Concordata entre Leão XIII e Rafael Núñez pelo papel da religião católica na educação

    Death receptor 5 expression is inversely correlated with prostate cancer progression.

    Prostate carcinoma (PCa) is one of the most common cancers in men. Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) has been widely used to predict the outcome of PCa and screening with PSA has resulted in a decline in mortality. However, PSA is not an optimal prognostic tool as its sensitivity may be too low to reduce morbidity and mortality. Consequently, there is a demand for additional robust biomarkers for prostate cancer. Death receptor 5 (DR5) has been implicated in the prognosis of several cancers and it has been previously shown that it is negatively regulated by Yin Yang 1 (YY1) in prostate cancer cell lines. The present study investigated the clinical significance of DR5 expression in a prostate cancer patient cohort and its correlation with YY1 expression. Immunohistochemical analysis of protein expression distribution was performed using tissue microarray constructs from 54 primary PCa and 39 prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN) specimens. DR5 expression was dramatically reduced as a function of higher tumor grade. By contrast, YY1 expression was elevated in PCa tumors as compared with that in PIN, and was increased with higher tumor grade. DR5 had an inverse correlation with YY1 expression. Bioinformatic analyses corroborated these data. The present findings suggested that DR5 and YY1 expression levels may serve as progression biomarkers for prostate cancer

    Effectiveness of Liraglutide and Lixisenatide in the Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes: Real-World Evidence from The Health Improvement Network (THIN) Database in the United Kingdom.

    INTRODUCTION: The glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists liraglutide and lixisenatide are effective at reducing glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Although liraglutide has demonstrated superior efficacy in head-to-head clinical trials, real-world evidence of comparative effectiveness is lacking. This observational study aimed to assess the effectiveness of liraglutide versus lixisenatide in UK clinical practice. METHODS: Electronic medical records from The Health Improvement Network (THIN) UK primary care database were analyzed. Patients aged ≥18 years, diagnosed with T2DM, and prescribed liraglutide or lixisenatide between 01 May 2013 and 31 December 2015 were included in the study. Adjusted linear regression models compared the difference in mean change in HbA1c, body mass index (BMI), and systolic blood pressure (SBP) after 12-month follow-up. The proportion of patients achieving glycemic control (HbA1c 1%; and weight reduction ≥3% within 12 months were determined. Cox proportional hazards modeling was used to evaluate the effect of treatment on time to achieving HbA1c and weight reduction targets. Healthcare resource use (HCRU) (GP, secondary care, hospitalizations) was compared using analysis of covariance. RESULTS: The primary outcome was assessed in 579 liraglutide and 213 lixisenatide new users. Fully adjusted linear regression indicated that liraglutide reduced HbA1c significantly more than lixisenatide (mean treatment difference -0.30; 95% CI -0.56, -0.04; p = 0.025). Compared to lixisenatide, liraglutide recipients were 2.5 times more likely to achieve HbA1c 1% HbA1c reduction (HR 1.29; p = 0.0002). BMI and SBP reductions were greater for the liraglutide group but results were not significant. HCRU was comparable between treatment groups. CONCLUSION: These results from the THIN database indicate that liraglutide treatment provided better outcomes related to glycemic control. FUNDING: Novo Nordisk

    Desarrollo multidisciplinario en investigación y docencia del centro universitario UAEM Valle de México

    DESARROLLO MULTIDISCIPLINARIO EN INVESTIGACIÓN Y DOCENCIA DEL CENTRO UNIVERSITARIO UAEM VALLE DE MÉXICOLa Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México ha evolucionado a través de sus 188 años de historia, dedicada a la educación, la investigación, la cultura y el deporte, como sus grandes ejes rectores, formadora de hombres y mujeres con un alto sentido humanista y ético, contribuyendo a lograr nuevas y mejores formas de existencia y convivencia social. Durante el proceso de desconcentración de la UAEM, se crearon las Unidades Académicas y Centros Universitarios para brindar el servicio de educación a más jóvenes en todo el Estado de México, este Centro Universitario fue uno de los primeros y a sus veinte años de existencia se está consolidando como uno de los mejores. Es en los últimos años que se ha venido impulsando la investigación al contar con cuerpos académicos, en formación y en consolidación, con infraestructura de primera tanto en equipo como en laboratorios especializados, con profesores de tiempo completo que participan en congresos, seminarios y presentan publicaciones en revistas indexadas. Por ello para celebrar esos veinte años de existencia de esta honorable institución, se planeó la compilación de esta obra que es parte del quehacer multidisciplinario en investigación y docencia como parte del Plan de Desarrollo 2013-2017, de esta administración. Esta obra reúne investigaciones tanto de profesores como de alumnos desde las diferentes ramas del saber en las que se inscriben sus siete licenciaturas, Actuaría, Administración, Contaduría, Derecho, Economía, Relaciones Económicas Internacionales e Informática Administrativa, tanto presencial como a distancia, así como sus tres ingenierías, Industrial, en Computación y Sistemas y Comunicaciones, así como gracias a la vinculación y colaboración académico – científica que se tiene con otras instituciones de educación superior a nivel nacional, como el Instituto Tecnológico de Orizaba, la Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí, la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Universidad Politécnica de Victoria, el Instituto Politécnico Nacional entre otras. En el capítulo 1 se abordan seis temáticas diferentes de vanguardia en el área de las Ingenierías, en los capítulos 2 y 3 se incluyen temas de interés y gran relevancia en materia de ciencias sociales, política y economía. Se hace extensivo un reconocimiento para todos los que participaron tanto en la revisión de los trabajos, como en la compilación del producto final de este Libro intitulado “Desarrollo Multidisciplinario en Investigación y Docencia del Centro Universitario UAEM Valle de México”

    La economía y la administración están inmersas en el universo de las ciencias sociales, áreas del conocimiento que comprenden dominios diferentes, pero también convergen y se intersectan en un objeto de estudio: las organizacienones y sus agregados (industrias o sectores). Desde una perspectiva social, los estudios económico-administrativos informan sobre cómo hacer eficientes a las organizaciones y competitivos a los sectores con la finalidad de impactar positivamente en la justicia social (por ejemplo: mediante productos de mejor calidad a mejores precios). El auge de este tipo de estudios está extendido a fenómenos clave en el mundo de hoy, tales como: la ventaja competitiva, la innovación, la administración de la cadena de suministros y la administración verde, entre otros.El objetivo de este libro es difundir las aportaciones hechas a los estudios económico-administrativos, ya sea como reflexiones teóricas o a modo de evidencia empírica, pues la conjunción de varias ciencias ayuda a comprender fenómenos complejos mejor que una disciplina en forma aislada. Más que la homogeneidad de teorías o hegemonía de unas sobre otras, la investigación interdisciplinaria construye un acercamiento a la diversidad de puntos de vista: se buscan factores, métodos o lenguajes comunes alrededor de un objeto de estudio (Fernández, 2009; Martínez, 1997), llegándose a conformar una comunidad científica con antecedentes disciplinarios diferentes, pero con cierta unidad, relaciones y acciones recíprocas (Kuhn, 1995). Así, en este texto el objeto de estudio es el funcionamiento e interacción de las organizaciones, como integrantes de los sectores económicos, en los mercados locales y globales.     Una perspectiva multidisciplinaria

    Derivado de la necesidad de fomentar la investigación multidisciplinaria, la Facultad de Economía de la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México llevó a cabo los días 8 y 9 de septiembre de 2016, el VIII Coloquio de Investigación intitulado “Desarrollo económico, regional y sustentable”. En este magno evento se presentaron 36 ponencias agrupadas en cinco mesas de trabajo: sectores productivos, crecimiento económico y mercado de trabajo; tecnología, innovación y organizaciones; desigualdad regional, pobreza y migración; economía financiera e internacional; y medio ambiente y sociedad. Del material expuesto en el VIII Coloquio, se eligieron 16 investigaciones, mismas que integran este libro. Los estudios presentados en cada uno de los subsiguientes capítulos fueron seleccionados de acuerdo a un proceso de rigurosidad científica, siendo sometidos a dictamen por pares ciegos a partir de la integración de un Comité Académico de expertos. Lo anterior con la finalidad de proporcionar al lector un material de investigación de calidad y solidez científica respecto a temas de trascendencia vinculados con los sectores productivos, la innovación, las organizaciones, la responsabilidad social, la desigualdad, la educación y el medioambiente.Consecuencia de la apertura de los mercados y los preceptos competitivos dictados por la globalización, se manifiesta la necesidad de vincular los diversos saberes provenientes de las ciencias naturales y sociales, con el fin de complementar el conocimiento y generar nuevas formas de visualizar el entorno. A raíz de ello, la investigación multidisciplinaria asume un papel cada vez más importante en los círculos académicos, empresariales y gubernamentales. En este marco, entra en desuso la visualización del individuo como un sujeto atomístico desvinculado del medio ambiente que le rodea. El objetivo de este libro es otorgar una visión multidisciplinaria al estudio de temas económicos incorporando visiones teóricas y empíricas procedentes de las ciencias sociales y naturales. La obra está compuesta por 16 capítulos agrupados en cuatro secciones.     A global experiment on motivating social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic

    Finding communication strategies that effectively motivate social distancing continues to be a global public health priority during the COVID-19 pandemic. This cross-country, preregistered experiment (n = 25,718 from 89 countries) tested hypotheses concerning generalizable positive and negative outcomes of social distancing messages that promoted personal agency and reflective choices (i.e., an autonomy-supportive message) or were restrictive and shaming (i.e., a controlling message) compared with no message at all. Results partially supported experimental hypotheses in that the controlling message increased controlled motivation (a poorly internalized form of motivation relying on shame, guilt, and fear of social consequences) relative to no message. On the other hand, the autonomy-supportive message lowered feelings of defiance compared with the controlling message, but the controlling message did not differ from receiving no message at all. Unexpectedly, messages did not influence autonomous motivation (a highly internalized form of motivation relying on one’s core values) or behavioral intentions. Results supported hypothesized associations between people’s existing autonomous and controlled motivations and self-reported behavioral intentions to engage in social distancing. Controlled motivation was associated with more defiance and less long-term behavioral intention to engage in social distancing, whereas autonomous motivation was associated with less defiance and more short- and long-term intentions to social distance. Overall, this work highlights the potential harm of using shaming and pressuring language in public health communication, with implications for the current and future global health challenges

    Correction to: Two years later: Is the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic still having an impact on emergency surgery? An international cross-sectional survey among WSES members

    Background: The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic is still ongoing and a major challenge for health care services worldwide. In the first WSES COVID-19 emergency surgery survey, a strong negative impact on emergency surgery (ES) had been described already early in the pandemic situation. However, the knowledge is limited about current effects of the pandemic on patient flow through emergency rooms, daily routine and decision making in ES as well as their changes over time during the last two pandemic years. This second WSES COVID-19 emergency surgery survey investigates the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on ES during the course of the pandemic. Methods: A web survey had been distributed to medical specialists in ES during a four-week period from January 2022, investigating the impact of the pandemic on patients and septic diseases both requiring ES, structural problems due to the pandemic and time-to-intervention in ES routine. Results: 367 collaborators from 59 countries responded to the survey. The majority indicated that the pandemic still significantly impacts on treatment and outcome of surgical emergency patients (83.1% and 78.5%, respectively). As reasons, the collaborators reported decreased case load in ES (44.7%), but patients presenting with more prolonged and severe diseases, especially concerning perforated appendicitis (62.1%) and diverticulitis (57.5%). Otherwise, approximately 50% of the participants still observe a delay in time-to-intervention in ES compared with the situation before the pandemic. Relevant causes leading to enlarged time-to-intervention in ES during the pandemic are persistent problems with in-hospital logistics, lacks in medical staff as well as operating room and intensive care capacities during the pandemic. This leads not only to the need for triage or transferring of ES patients to other hospitals, reported by 64.0% and 48.8% of the collaborators, respectively, but also to paradigm shifts in treatment modalities to non-operative approaches reported by 67.3% of the participants, especially in uncomplicated appendicitis, cholecystitis and multiple-recurrent diverticulitis. Conclusions: The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic still significantly impacts on care and outcome of patients in ES. Well-known problems with in-hospital logistics are not sufficiently resolved by now; however, medical staff shortages and reduced capacities have been dramatically aggravated over last two pandemic years

    CIBERER : Spanish national network for research on rare diseases: A highly productive collaborative initiative

    Altres ajuts: Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII); Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación.CIBER (Center for Biomedical Network Research; Centro de Investigación Biomédica En Red) is a public national consortium created in 2006 under the umbrella of the Spanish National Institute of Health Carlos III (ISCIII). This innovative research structure comprises 11 different specific areas dedicated to the main public health priorities in the National Health System. CIBERER, the thematic area of CIBER focused on rare diseases (RDs) currently consists of 75 research groups belonging to universities, research centers, and hospitals of the entire country. CIBERER's mission is to be a center prioritizing and favoring collaboration and cooperation between biomedical and clinical research groups, with special emphasis on the aspects of genetic, molecular, biochemical, and cellular research of RDs. This research is the basis for providing new tools for the diagnosis and therapy of low-prevalence diseases, in line with the International Rare Diseases Research Consortium (IRDiRC) objectives, thus favoring translational research between the scientific environment of the laboratory and the clinical setting of health centers. In this article, we intend to review CIBERER's 15-year journey and summarize the main results obtained in terms of internationalization, scientific production, contributions toward the discovery of new therapies and novel genes associated to diseases, cooperation with patients' associations and many other topics related to RD research

    Design and baseline characteristics of the finerenone in reducing cardiovascular mortality and morbidity in diabetic kidney disease trial

    Background: Among people with diabetes, those with kidney disease have exceptionally high rates of cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality and progression of their underlying kidney disease. Finerenone is a novel, nonsteroidal, selective mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist that has shown to reduce albuminuria in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) while revealing only a low risk of hyperkalemia. However, the effect of finerenone on CV and renal outcomes has not yet been investigated in long-term trials. Patients and Methods: The Finerenone in Reducing CV Mortality and Morbidity in Diabetic Kidney Disease (FIGARO-DKD) trial aims to assess the efficacy and safety of finerenone compared to placebo at reducing clinically important CV and renal outcomes in T2D patients with CKD. FIGARO-DKD is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, event-driven trial running in 47 countries with an expected duration of approximately 6 years. FIGARO-DKD randomized 7,437 patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate >= 25 mL/min/1.73 m(2) and albuminuria (urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio >= 30 to <= 5,000 mg/g). The study has at least 90% power to detect a 20% reduction in the risk of the primary outcome (overall two-sided significance level alpha = 0.05), the composite of time to first occurrence of CV death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, nonfatal stroke, or hospitalization for heart failure. Conclusions: FIGARO-DKD will determine whether an optimally treated cohort of T2D patients with CKD at high risk of CV and renal events will experience cardiorenal benefits with the addition of finerenone to their treatment regimen.
